opportunities for technical communicators
since 1999. The largest gathering of technical
communicators in India, the conference showcases
the strengths and knowledge levels of the
technical communication community and attracts
over 200 delegates each year. Pre-conference
workshops are conducted to help delegates
obtain training on functional areas and
authoring tools.
The annual conference
attracts the largest gathering of STC India
Chapter members who are otherwise scattered
across the subcontinent. Elections to the
India chapter administrative council take
place during the 2-day event.

Learning Sessions
The focus of the India
chapter is on educational initiatives. One
of our first activities was to start the
series of learning sessions. This initiative
has come a long way hence and we now have
regular learning sessions at Bangalore,
Chennai,
Delhi,
Hyderabad,
Mumbai
and Pune.
Academic Initiatives
Today, the country has
at least two university-level courses in
Technical Communicationan optional
paper in the Master of Communication and
Journalism (MCJ) course offered by the Dept.
of Mass Communication, Calicut University
and a short-term program offered by Stella
Maris College, Chennai. STC India chapter
members and other technical communicators
played a key role in setting up and running
these courses.

This scholarship sponsors
the education of individuals who may, upon

become contributors to the technical communication
profession in India. This scholarship also
encourages students to take up studies in
technical writing and motivate Indian universities
