About the SessionImportance of certification for Technical Communicators

Technical Communication today is light years away from when the profession first came to prominence during the Silicon Valley boom. New specifications, methodologies, software, technologies and techniques have evolved from what was almost a cottage industry, in which the technical communicator required little else than basic knowledge of word processing, decent knowledge of English, and a curiosity towards technology. Given the rapid progression of technology and professionalization in Technical communication, practitioners today require a variety of skills and knowledge to be able to do their work effectively. The corporate requirements from Technical communicators are much higher than what they were even 10 years ago. This constant raising of the bar requires that technical communicators are more prepared before they attempt to enter the
job market. Whether you are a person from a background such as IT, KPO/BPO, Electrical, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Arts and Humanities etc., good training in a certified technical communication course will definitely improve your readiness to become a full-fledged practitioner, and also improve your prospects of being employed In my talk I explore the global demand trends of the employer market, and explain how novice technical communicators can equip themselves with the skills and knowledge to excel.

Freelancing – A boon or bane?

Flexible working hours, the freedom to choose: the work, the environment and the client is all yours! You can decide how much money to make and when to take a vacation to blow it up! Freelancing is good, BUT…

How do we face up to the realities of freelancing? What to keep in mind when taking up project? How to make intelligent choices about working with multiple deliverables, how to tackle problems all alone and how to grow in an environment that is sometimes lonely? This session will try and address all of these and other questions related to Freelancing.
