The aim of the workshop was to create an awareness of the various aspects of information design through a series of exercises. The motto being ‘learning by doing’.

What is Information Design? “Information design plays an important role in every aspect of static or dynamic media from product packaging to TV scoreboards of cricket matches. It’s all about making sense of information wherever it is present”, explains Shashank Deshpande, who conducted the workshop.

ExercisesThere were 20 technical writers from various companies. They were divided into groups and were asked to work as a team, designing a railway ticket and a brochure providing information about forts to trekkers.

The exercises had to be done within a stipulated time. Each team was asked to present their design.

This was followed by queries or comments or suggestions from the audience. After each presentation, Shashank commented on the design and suggested improvements, if required.

Finally, Shashank concluded with his idea of an ideal design for the given exercises.
