Minimal Viable Product – Your solution’s first step into the market

A Minimum Viable Product or MVP is a development technique in which a new product is introduced in the market with basic/key features, but enough to get the attention of the consumers. Over iterative methods by predominantly using the feedback from the product’s initial users, you work towards the final product. What does this mean for technical writers? Get to know more through this lecture session.

About the Speaker:

Nithya Krishnan is a user assistance developer and user experience advocate at SAP Labs India. In her 12 years of experience in the field of technical communications, she has authored end-user documentation across various domains. With an academic background in information technology, her interest lies in bringing the worlds of writing and design together; whilst creating a cohesive learning environment for all roles involved in a software development process.

.

Animated GIF in Product Documentation

Content intensive product documentation provides extensive insights towards the core functionality of the product to the end-users. To enrich the content usability, Nokia documentation team devised an innovative yet simplified way of representing the content using GIFs. GIFs are created for conceptual and procedural contents (use cases, such as installation and configuration) that can be embedded in the product documentation. GIFs can instruct users, illustrate the problems for customer support, or mock-up a new idea for the design process.

Animated GIFs are:

  • Easy to create (using open source tools) and maintain
  • Easy to reuse (sales, marketing, customer care, and so on)
  • Reduces complexity and file size
  • Reduces cost and effort
  • Lightweight and easily sharable (through inline documentation, Bluetooth, and email)
  • Browser friendly

About the Speaker: R, Madhusudan works at Nokia Networks India as a Lead Technical Writer. He has over 11 years of experience in technical writing, technical editing, and project management. He has completed Post Graduate Diploma in Technical Writing from Symbiosis Centre for Distance Learning (SCDL). He has a keen interest in exploring new ideas on minimizing cognitive load of end-users while using the product documentation.

Content Marketing-Crossing Paths with TechComm

In today’s trends, marketing content is focusing on addressing user pain points that is more or less what technical documentation does. However, marketing content lacks details about how to set up the product, how the product works, and how the product fits in for the user’s business. Users are turning towards technical content instead of marketing materials as a pre-purchase research document. Off likely, there are fewer audiences for marketing content and more focus is on technical content in the current trends. The future of content is heading towards merging technical and marketing content. It is vital for we Tech Writers to hone our skills to understand how we prepare our self to reach a wider audience while we learn to pitch in content that serves as marketing weapon as well for the organization. This way, we also bring in greater ROI and value to our workspace. In this presentation, we will learn about what marketing content is, why there is a need for combining both technical and marketing content. We will learn how to get started to write for content that serves both as technical content and marketing content so that we can start pitching this skill set right away at our workspace.

Key Takeaway: Participants will learn about the future of content-merging technical and marketing content. They will learn how to get started with honing their writing skills to meet the gap with technical and marketing content and start contributing to their organizations for marketing content. They will also learn to reach wider audience group before the actual technical content is published in the tech doc destination.
