Unconscious bias Vs User Experience Wendy Ross is an STC Senior Member and former President of the STC Rochester, NYS Chapter. Wendy is the Chair of STC’s new Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Advisory Panel (DEIAP) and is a candidate for a Doctorate of Education in Executive Leadership. Wendy is passionate about DEI and social justice and brings that passion to her technical communication and project management leadership. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion – not many of us think of these elements as something that will figure in creating a greater User Experience. But the world is changing, and these elements are increasingly affecting communicators around the world. All people – and thus all UX and UA designers – have implicit biases. Whether positive or negative, implicit or unconscious bias is a matter of how our brains work. As diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives grow, as communicators we must educate ourselves on ways to exclude our biases in our content and to work harder than ever to be inclusive and equitable in our content. In this session, Wendy Ross will discuss some of the ways you can be more inclusive in creating user assistance and impacting UX design. Wendy will also discuss the role STC hopes to play in increasing community and equity within STC and through providing advice, checklists, and other solutions to our members. Be privileged to attend the session covering a topic that is getting featured in STC India conference for the first time. |
